The aim of a SWOT analysis is to identify the key internal and external factors that are important to achieving the objective. The objective of a nonprofit is to further its mission, which includes making enough money to continue to operate, rather than return value to shareholders. Therefore the analysis of a non-profit SWOT should be closely tied to its core values and mission statement. An organization, but especially a nonprofit cannot succeed unless the people they employ agree to contribute to it mission and survival. Understanding and effectively managing these psychological constructs can help the organizations thrive.
This is why the input of the employees-especially those who come into contact with the core group of people served should have a voice in the organizations strategic planning.Keeping these ideas in mind while conducting this SWOT, the developers chose to interview the employees of the organization, their opinions have been condensed and codified to protect their privacy and reduce potential bias.
These ideas and thoughts will be further coded to reflect the organizations core values and to see in what areas the organization is fulfilling those promises to the community and what areas need to be improved on. When overlaying the SWOT structure these will be presented as strengths and opportunities that positively further the agencies mission where weakness and threats will be presented as areas that hinder or hurt the organization's mission. This will allow for a unobstructed path into developing an evidence backed employee sponsored strategic plan. The number of instances each line item has been mentioned has been recorded and should be given greater weight during the final analysis.
